I just found the "Bad Man" write up, and it seem that a merchant avatar can become insanely powerful! And I started to get some questions:

1. Can you trade the Avatar abilities of someone else?
2. Can you get the Adept abilities of someone else?

1 : Yes, you can trade - However, this will weaken or more likely make you ineligible as a Merchant Avatar. Even if it doesn't Taboo you technically, read up in the UA Core Rulebook, on why you cannot have two Avatar or Adept classes, etc.

The best way for Merchants with this, is trade them between "Other" people and not actually touch the skill in question.

2 : Yes, There is nothing stopping an Avatar from having an Adept power, some designed characters have both Adept and Avatar. Though unknowingly so. As they both see the world through different eyes.

However, depending on the Adept class you trade in, you could have a hard time keeping a Merchant from Tabooing. As you would need to take another persons Obsession Skill, this means Self and Unnatural checks all around.

End Point, it all comes down to the Storyteller / Game Master. As each will have their own views on such. Ask them yourself or create your own hypothesis with facts from UA Sources.

Thanks, what I meant to say with the first question was in addition to your Merchant powers

And the second question was about getting more than one Adept school of magic at the same time.

Different adept schools are different ways of viewing reality. Two adept schools at the same time means automatic insanity. That's canon.

Having two avatar skills at the same time would be like trying to tune a radio to two stations at the same time. I don't think it would be possible, not to mention that the radio stations are aware of their listeners and might get upset that you are two-timing them.

I wrote up some House rules for Merchants to try to tone them down a bit if you are interested.

They don't need to be toned down. It just requires a special group to keep them balanced. Usually Merchants in Groups should work for the betterment of the group itself. Otherwise, it will get messy really fast.
